Israeli forces detained and assaulted journalists in the Jabal Qamas area of Beita, south of Nablus, during a wave of settler attacks on October 3, 2026, Al Jazeera reported. Masked settlers and soldiers targeted Palestinian olive pickers across the occupied West Bank, burning trees, destroying vehicles, and firing tear gas while blocking access to agricultural lands.
Armed Settler Assaults and Military Protection in Beita and Awarta
Armed settlers attacked olive groves in Abu Dis, Awarta, Beita, and Osarin, according to field reports collected by Al Jazeera and the Palestinian news agency Wafa. An anonymous California activist volunteering with Palestinian harvest crews told Al Jazeera that a group of roughly 50 masked settlers threw stones and targeted a house before soldiers arrived. Rather than stopping the assailants, troops rounded up the Palestinian farmers and volunteer harvesters, forcing them to sit on the ground at gunpoint before driving them away.
Footage captured by Al Jazeera showed settlers smashing a Palestinian vehicle in Osarin and attacking a home in Beita. In Osarin, Israeli forces fired tear gas at villagers and journalists while settlers threw stones at cars and assaulted residents, Wafa reported. جريدة القدس noted that settlers set ambushes among trees in Beita’s Jabal Qamas area, opening live fire on unarmed citizens before military vehicles stormed the zone to secure the attackers’ withdrawal. Those confrontations left one Palestinian injured and ten farmers detained.
Contrasting Statistics on West Bank Harvest Violence
Reporting from شبكة يافا الإخبارية highlights that Nablus Governorate recorded 900 settler attacks during the first half of 2026, marking the highest volume among all West Bank governorates. Those incidents resulted in the damage or felling of 6,015 trees in Nablus alone, part of 45,195 affected trees across the wider territory, including 26,395 olive trees.
Data from the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission shows that occupation and settler attacks reached approximately 2,051 incidents during September alone. Palestinian authorities report that 30 Palestinians have been killed by settlers since the beginning of 2026, surpassing totals from any year since 2022.
