SV Darmstadt 98 traveled across the Atlantic Ocean for a week-long stay in San Antonio, scheduling the fixture in the middle of their respective competitive season. The visiting German side fielded players in blue jerseys marked with stylized white lettering, while San Antonio FC wore red home kits on the pitch. Sister City Roots Shape Partnership
The clubs formalized their relationship when then-mayor Ron Nirenberg traveled to Germany in July 2024 to renew the municipal sister city agreement. SV Darmstadt 98 has played in the top two levels of German soccer over the past decade.

The partnership focuses heavily on youth development and operational exchange. SV Darmstadt 98 coaches have traveled to San Antonio to run clinics and share tactical insights, while San Antonio FC academy players have journeyed to Germany for training environments. SV Darmstadt 98 president Markus Pfitzner emphasized that the collaboration exposes players to new environments and operational models.
