Bangladesh has been elected as a member of the APCT Governing Council

Bangladesh has been elected as a member of the Governing Council of the Asian and Pacific Center for Transfer of Technology-APCT of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP).

The election results were announced during the closing session of UN-Escape’s 79th commission session on Thursday (May 18).

According to Bangladesh Embassy in Bangkok, China, Iran, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of South Korea, Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Thailand and Uzbekistan were also elected as members of the Governing Council. India as the host country is a permanent member of this Governing Council. The new members will serve on the Board of Directors for the period 2023 to 2026.

APCT is a regional organization of UN-ESCAP based in New Delhi, India. which works to enhance the capacity of UN-ESCAP member states in the field of science and technology and to develop and transfer technology.

Bangladesh was elected as a member of four regional institutions at the 78th commission session of UN-ESCAP last year. Bangladesh is now the only country that is an elected member of the Governing Council of the five regional institutions of UN-ESCAP.
