Addressing fragmentation in the Salon industry
Barespace, founded by Conor Moules and Glenn McGoldrick, has secured €3.5 million in a new funding round led by Elkstone, a venture capital firm. This brings the company’s total external investment to just under €4.7 million. The funding will be used to expand the company’s reach across Europe and to further develop its AI-powered platform designed specifically for the hair and beauty industry.
The company’s core offering is an intuitive, all-in-one operating system that integrates scheduling, payments, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), marketing, and analytics. Barespace aims to address the common problem of fragmented systems that plague many salon owners, frequently enough requiring them to juggle multiple software solutions for diffrent aspects of their business.
“No one in this industry got into it because thay wanted to be a business person. They got into it because they want to serve people, they want to be creative,” explained Conor Moules, co-founder of Barespace. “We really understood the problem we were trying to solve and understood the world, not only from a salon owner’s perspective, but also from the staff on the floor.”
data Ownership and AI-Driven Efficiency
A key differentiator for Barespace is its commitment to data ownership for salon owners. Unlike some software providers, Barespace allows salons to retain full control over their client, transaction, and inventory data, providing direct access for analysis and decision-making. This is increasingly crucial as data privacy concerns grow and salons seek to leverage their data for business insights.
The platform’s AI capabilities are designed to automate tasks and optimize operations, perhaps saving salon owners significant time each week. While specific details on the AI algorithms are not publicly available, the company highlights its ability to streamline processes and improve efficiency. The mobile-first design further enhances accessibility and usability for salon staff.
Industry Expertise and Strategic Leadership
Barespace currently works with over 260 salons across Ireland, the UK, France, and Spain. The company has also appointed Brian Caulfield, a seasoned venture capitalist and entrepreneur, as its chairman. Caulfield’s experience is expected to provide valuable guidance as Barespace scales its operations and expands into new markets.
Niall McEvoy,Head of Venture at Elkstone, emphasized the disruptive potential of Barespace’s platform. “Barespace have developed a platform that can be truly disruptive and transformational in the salon owner space, enabling their customers to maximise revenue and margins, while maintaining focus on growing their core business,” McEvoy stated.
