A decrease in urban violence and blockades marked Tuesday, October 6, across the Bas-Rhin department following a day of demonstrations, according to a press release from the prefecture reported by dna.fr. The prefecture confirmed a general easing of tensions in its post-demonstration press briefing, though localized clashes and property damage occurred during the late afternoon in Strasbourg.
Strasbourg March Ends with Property Damage
The main Strasbourg march drew between 10,000 and 15,000 participants according to organizers, while the prefecture estimated the turnout at approximately 5,000. The gathering remained largely peaceful as it moved between Place Kléber and Place de la République. However, disturbances broke out during the dispersal of the remaining crowds.
Authorities also recorded broken windows at two commercial locations, specifically a McDonald’s restaurant and a Société Générale bank branch. The injured officer received treatment at a hospital on Tuesday evening, and officers arrested the individual accused of throwing the stone.

Arrests Decline as Mulhouse Protests Remain Peaceful
Following the injury to the officer, the Bas-Rhin prefect condemned the violence and expressed support for law enforcement personnel. The police union UN1TE issued a statement describing the assault as an act of extreme gravity and demanded a clear and firm judicial response.
Police Projectile Injures Protester Near Boulevard De La Victoire
During a separate unauthorized demonstration, known as a manifestation sauvage, near boulevard de la Victoire around 5:30 PM, a young male participant was struck in the mouth by a police LBD 40-40 projectile. The less-lethal round was fired from a distance of over 50 meters to disperse stagnant groups. The injured manifestant sustained minor injuries and did not receive assistance from emergency rescue services on the scene.
La France Insoumise deputy Emmanuel Fernandes announced plans to report the LBD incident to the public prosecutor under Article 40 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure. Educational authorities announced that in-person classes across Alsatian high schools will resume progressively starting Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
