The Tarifverbund Nordwestschweiz (TNW) announced on May 11, 2026, that its revenues for 2025 have exceeded pre-pandemic levels for the first time. The transport association reported total income of approximately 249.9 million francs for the 2025 calendar year.
This figure represents an increase of 9 million francs compared to the previous year. When compared to 2019, the year immediately preceding the COVID-19 pandemic, revenues grew by 1.9 percent, an increase of 4.8 million francs.
The TNW attributed the high ticket sales in part to major events held in the region, including the Women’s European Championship and the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in Basel.
While financial returns have surpassed 2019 levels, passenger volume has not yet fully recovered. In 2025, the TNW transported 232.4 million passengers, which constitutes a 2 percent increase over the previous year. However, this total remains 4.4 percent lower than the passenger numbers recorded in 2019.
The association also noted a rise in the sale of subscription passes. Revenue from these sales increased by 3.2 percent compared to 2024.
A significant driver of this growth was the “U-Abo Jugend” youth subscription, which was launched in 2024. This subscription is offered at a price of 365 francs. By the end of 2025, 12,154 young people in the Canton of Basel-Stadt held the discounted pass.
