Clash Over Factory Possession in Sreepur, Gazipur
A violent clash broke out between the local youth party and the farmers’ party in Sreepur, Gazipur, over the possession of a factory. The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 25, at around 10 am, near the SQ Celsius Limited sweater factory, located near No. 2 C&B on the southern side of Mauna Chowrasta.
According to eyewitnesses, the clash began when SM Palash Chanchal, convenor of Sreepur Paur Jubo Dal, attempted to remove jhut from the factory with a work order. However, the people of Farmers Party District, led by Abul Kalam Azad, intervened and stopped him, leading to a conflict between the two groups.
The situation escalated, with both sides blocking the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway and vandalizing several vehicles. At least 8-10 motorbikes were also damaged in the clash. Several people were injured in the violence, with reports suggesting that five to six people from both sides were hurt by brick bats.
Zainal Abedin, Head of Human Resources Department of SQ Celsius Limited, stated that the factory authorities had given a work order to SM Palash Chanchal, owner of Chanchal Enterprises, which led to the conflict. The other side, led by Abul Kalam Azad, alleged that the work order was given in exchange for a large sum of money.
SM Palash Chanchal denied the allegations, stating that the factory authorities had given him a legitimate work order. He claimed that the people of Abul Kalam Azad attacked his office and vandalized his motorbikes.
Abul Kalam Azad, however, denied any involvement in the clash, stating that he was in Dhaka on personal work and had no knowledge of the incident. He also denied submitting any application to get fraudulent business from SQ Celsius Limited.
The police were called to the scene, and the situation was brought under control. Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zainal Abedin Mondal stated that the situation was now normal, and production in the factory was running smoothly.
