Group D Standings and Opening Defeat
The Austrian club enters Tuesday night seeking its first win in the current European campaign after opening Group D with a narrow 66-65 defeat against SLUC Nancy in France. BC Vienna nearly staged an improbable comeback after falling behind by 19 points during the contest, eventually pulling within a single point in the final minute.
RJ Gunn led the Vienna scoring effort in France with 15 points. Nikola Jovanović added 14 points, while Aleksandar Langović contributed 13 points to the narrow opening-round loss.
Schedule Strain and Rotation Plans
Dragan Bajić’s squad faces severe scheduling pressure leading into Tuesday night. The team returned from Belgrade just 47 hours prior to the opening tip-off following an ABA League away fixture against EuroLeague club KK Partizan.
I expect a very difficult game. We only returned from Belgrade yesterday and had barely any time to regenerate and prepare for the next match, but we cannot change the schedule.
Dragan Bajic
To manage the heavy workload, the coaching staff plans to adjust player rotations. Bajić indicated that the team will try to rest certain athletes to keep them fresh for the upcoming ABA League fixture against Zadar, while giving extended minutes to players who have seen less playing time.
Kaderauswahl is further restricted by FIBA Europe Cup homegrown regulations. The competition requires clubs to dress at least five locally trained players among a twelve-man roster, limiting the head coach’s lineup flexibility.
We must be fully focused from the very first moment, step on the court with a lot of energy and aggressiveness, and consistently execute our game plan over the full 40 minutes.

King Szczecin European Experience
Opponent King Szczecin arrives from the northwestern Polish port city of Szczecin. The club has played in Poland’s top domestic division since 2014, capturing its maiden league title in 2023 before finishing as runners-up the following year, and has previous international experience in the Basketball Champions League.
The Polish side opened its FIBA Europe Cup schedule with an 88-81 home victory over the Slovakian Nitra Blue Wings, overcoming a ten-point deficit. Noah Reynolds paced Szczecin with 16 points in that win, and Zahir Porter added 15 points.
Maciej Majcherek’s team experienced a setback in domestic league play over the weekend, dropping an 82-69 decision to Śląsk Wrocław ahead of the trip to Vienna.
