Behind the Curtain: A K-Ballet Legend’s Haunting Reality Check

by Catherine Williams - Chief Editor

Reducing the Limits of the Korean Ballet Ecosystem

A performance environment that lacks even practice rooms. There is also no systematic education⁤ system. This is the reality of the Korean ballet ecosystem.

The Case of John Cranko School

Under the Stuttgart Ballet in Germany, the John Cranko School is an ⁤impressive example of a ballet-specific education‍ system. Financially sound thanks to city and state government support, the school provides⁢ a comprehensive education system that allows dancers to focus solely on performance. Even companies like Porsche provide large sponsorships to support the school.

A ‍Stable System for the Advancement of Ballet

In order to change the ballet ecosystem, a stable system‍ such as a dedicated theater and education must first be established, and for this, solid financial support must also be provided. The John Cranko School is a prime example of how a systematic ‌education system can produce‌ professional dancers.

The Importance of a Dedicated Theater

The current National Ballet Company, which ‍does ⁤not have a ‍dedicated theater, ‌is, in‍ a word, a ‘homeless wanderer’. They are doing their best in the given situation, but‍ it is‌ difficult to present the performances that the ⁢audience wants to see. A dedicated ⁢theater would allow for more frequent performances and a ⁤more stable schedule.

The Benefits of a ⁤Dedicated Theater

If there is a dedicated theater, it is expected that‌ exchange performances with excellent overseas ⁢ballet companies will become more active. Even if we consider the aspect of international exchange, such as ⁤showing the high-quality‍ performances of the National Ballet Company overseas and showing the works of excellent overseas ballet‌ companies to the public, the construction of a dedicated theater ⁢seems necessary.

A Systematic System for the Development of Culture and Arts

Our country has rapidly developed both in terms of the level of culture and ‍arts and in terms of the level of cultural⁤ enjoyment by the audience. However, in order for culture and arts to develop along with the ⁤rapid development of technology and society, it is time to discuss and implement⁤ a systematic system.

The Proposal to Build a‍ Dedicated Theater

The proposal to build a dedicated theater is ultimately for the audience ⁢and the people. The National Ballet‌ and cultural and arts organizations, including myself, will continue to strive for the best condition and the best results for the peace of mind ‍that the audience can feel.

Meta⁤ Description
The⁢ Korean ballet ecosystem lacks a⁣ systematic education system and a dedicated theater. The John Cranko School in‌ Germany is an example of a ballet-specific education system⁤ that produces professional dancers. A dedicated theater would allow for more frequent performances and a more stable schedule.
