‘PREP TALK’ (Click to listen to episode 93)

In the latest episode of ‘Prep Talk,’ NYC Emergency Management (NYCEM) staff discuss their roles in major planned events. They highlight the need for teamwork and clear communication. NYCEM’s executive director of response operations, Wess Doskocil, along with McCharles Bouzy and Nick Narine, share insights about NYC’s preparations for two major parades.
“The response support unit walks the parade route several times before the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade,” said Wess Doskocil. “They check for any scaffolds or lampposts that need adjustment.”
McCharles Bouzy adds, “On the event day, I arrive around 4 a.m. and start setting up command vehicles after walking through the route. The area is extensive.”
Nick Narine shares, “We activate our short code messaging for the parade. You can text ‘thanksgiving’ to 692-692 to receive real-time updates. This is useful for visitors who may not want ongoing notifications.”
