Beijing Issues Cold Wave Alert
Beijing has issued a blue cold wave alert. The city, with over 21 million residents, expects a sudden drop in temperature and severe weather. Rain and snow will start Sunday night and continue until Monday noon. Some mountainous areas may face blizzard conditions. After the precipitation ends, strong winds and freezing temperatures will take over until Wednesday.
To ensure public safety, Beijing’s urban management has activated many resources. More than 35,000 personnel are ready. They also have 5,121 snow-clearing vehicles and over 4,600 pieces of snow removal equipment prepared for the heavy snow and ice.
Zhao Wei, chief forecaster at the Beijing meteorological center, warned that rain and snow will reduce visibility and create slippery roads. Residents should drive carefully, check road conditions, and avoid outdoor activities in mountainous areas due to potential hazards from snow and ice.
The National Meteorological Center has also updated alerts for cold waves and strong winds across the country. Sharp temperature drops and powerful winds are expected in various regions.
