Beijing Olympic-Short Track Team Challenges Individual Medal Today

The Korean athletes who participated in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing challenge to win their first medal in the short track individual event today (7th).

The short track team will compete in the women’s 500m and men’s 1,000m quarterfinals starting today (7th) at 8:30 pm (Korean time) at the Capital Gymnasium in Beijing, China.

In the women’s 500m, Choi Min-jung and Lee Yu-bin entered the preliminary round, but Lee Yu-bin was eliminated and Choi Min-jung scrambled to the quarterfinals alone. In the men’s 1,000m, Hwang Dae-heon, Lee Jun-seo, and Park Jang-hyuk pass through the preliminary rounds side by side and aim for a medal. Both events will be played until the finals today (7th).

The women’s 500m is an event that Korea has not been strong at in the Olympics. Jeon Gyeong-gyeong of the 1998 Nagano Games and the 2014 Sochi Games of Sochi Park Seung-hee’s bronze medal were the best achievements ever.

The men’s 1,000m, on the other hand, is a very strong event in Korea. Of the eight gold medals in this event so far, Korea has swept five. Hwang Dae-heon is also a strong gold medal candidate predicted by an American sports data company.

The short track team was eliminated from the preliminary round in the mixed relay on the 5th, and the atmosphere was somewhat subdued, but they are determined to make a comeback with individual medals. KBS Korea Broadcasting will broadcast the women’s 500m short track and the men’s 1,000m race on TV 2 tonight.
