Actor Song Min-hyung (70, real name Song Gwi-hyeon), who played the role of licorice in several popular dramas, died on the 3rd.

The bereaved family told Yonhap News, “He recently underwent surgery for gallbladder cancer and died after battling the disease.” The deceased previously appeared on MBN entertainment show ‘Dongchimi’ in October last year and revealed the story of overcoming liver cancer four times over 17 years, adding to the sadness.
At the time, he said, “While filming the drama ‘Jumong,’ a liver cancer measuring more than 5 cm was discovered. “I was told to have an operation quickly, but I had the operation,” he said. “Suddenly I couldn’t have surgery because I was filming, so I only had chemotherapy. “I couldn’t even tell people, only my wife knew,” he said.
He said, “I threw up everything I ate. I wanted to eat it no matter what, so I ate everything, including copious soup. “The smell was unbelievable, so I covered my nose, swallowed, took a deep breath, and ate,” he said, “When I ate, the person came back to life.” Because my stamina sustains me. I survived chemotherapy by eating. “So it worked,” he said.
The deceased, who was born in 1954, became a child actor for the first time in 1966 by playing the role of a goblin in KBS’s ‘Teatr Plant – Humpbacked Old Man’. After graduating from Dongguk University’s Department of Theater and Film, he worked as a theater actor and returned to the small screen with the SBS sitcom ‘LA Arirang’ in 1995.
Since then, he has appeared in many popular works such as ‘Jumong’ (2006), ‘Hit’, ‘Taewangasingi’ (2007), ‘Sky Castle’ (2018), ‘Stove League’ (2019), and ‘Queen Iron Man’ (2020). In particular, he received great love for his role as Lee Gwi-hyeon, the father of the main character Lee Young-ae (played by Kim Hyun-sook), in tvN’s long-running drama ‘Dirty Young-ae’, which aired for 17 seasons of 2007 to 2019.
The mortuary was set up in room 201 in the funeral hall of the Seoul Red Cross Hospital. The funeral will be held at 6 am on the 5th and the burial site will be at Seunghwawon Seoul Metropolitan Government.
