Qatar Denounces Netanyahu’s “Incendiary Declarations” Amid Mediation Efforts
DOHA, Qatar – Qatar has strongly refuted accusations from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who alleged the nation was playing a “double game” and using “double language” in its role as mediator between Israel and Hamas.
Qatari Official Responds to Allegations
Majed Al-Ansari, spokesman for Qatar’s ministry of Foreign Affairs, responded to Netanyahu’s claims via social media platform X, stating, “The State of Qatar firmly rejects the incendiary declarations made by the Prime Minister’s office, which are contrary to the most basic rules of political and moral duty.”
Mediation Efforts Questioned
Al-Ansari’s statement further questioned the effectiveness of military operations versus diplomatic mediation, asking, “A legitimate question arises: has the release of no less than 138 hostages been obtained by so-called ‘just’ military operations or by the very mediation which is today unjustly criticized and undermined?” The statement underscores Qatar’s commitment to its mediation role despite the criticism.
Humanitarian concerns in Gaza
The qatari official also addressed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, asserting, “Meanwhile, the Palestinian population of Gaza undergoes one of the worst humanitarian disasters of modern times, marked by a stifling blockade, systematic famine, refusal of drugs and shelters, and the use of humanitarian aid as a tool for political coercion. Is this really the ‘civilization’ model that we promote?”
Qatar’s Stance on Peace
Despite the tensions, Qatar affirmed its intention to continue working closely with Egypt and the United States to achieve a lasting resolution. The Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized Qatar’s belief that “a real peace will not be obtained” without guaranteeing “the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, at the forefront of which the creation of an independent state along the borders of 1967, with East Jerusalem for capital.”
Continued Diplomatic Efforts
Qatar’s response highlights the delicate balance it attempts to maintain as a key mediator in the ongoing conflict, navigating criticisms while advocating for a peaceful resolution and addressing the urgent humanitarian needs in gaza. The nation remains committed to its diplomatic efforts alongside international partners.
