Benalla Job Losses: ForestOne Cuts Operations
Victorian Timber Industry Feels the Pinch as Housing Market Slows
The Victorian timber industry is experiencing a significant slowdown, directly linked to extended build times in the state’s housing market. Andrew White, Chief Executive of the Victorian Forest products Association (VFPA), the peak body for the state’s wood fibre industry, highlighted the impact of these delays on suppliers.
Slow Housing Market a Factor
“We are seeing build times for houses have blown out from around six months to 10 months,” Mr. White stated.”Whilst there might be more homes being started, they are not being completed as quickly. It means there is an impact on those suppliers.”
This extended timeline means that demand for timber and other wood fibre products, which are crucial at various stages of home construction, is being stretched out. Suppliers who rely on a steady flow of new home completions are consequently facing reduced immediate demand, impacting their operations and revenue.
The VFPA represents a vital sector of victoria’s economy, contributing to jobs and regional development. The current challenges underscore the interconnectedness of the construction and primary industry sectors. As the housing market navigates its current phase, the ripple effects are clearly being felt by those who supply the essential materials that build our homes.
