“Congratulations” from Benin to Botswana’s Coalition for Democratic Change (UDC) following the victory of the opposition in the general elections held on October 30, 2024.

The Republic of Benin sent its “Hearty congratulations” to the ”Umbrella for Democratic Change”, in the French Coalition for Democratic Change (UDC), winner of the October 30, 2024 general elections in Botswana.

Through a press release from the Beninese Ministry of Foreign Affairs dated November 3, 2024, the Beninese authorities welcome “a peaceful and democratic transition”. They also do “A tribute to the people of Botswana for their outstanding political maturity, which honors African democracy”.

“Benin reaffirms to the new authorities of Botswana its commitment to strengthen its partnership relations with Botswana, in favor of greater African integration and the realization of the common aspirations” of the two people “for peace and prosperity”.

The people of Botswana went to the polls on October 30 to renew the members of the National Assembly of Botswana. In running, he united the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), which has been in power since 1965, and the opposition within the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) coalition. Following the elections, the President of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi, congratulated the opposition on their victory.

The Coalition for Democratic Change (UDC), winning an absolute majority of seats, Duma Bokor, the Coalition’s candidate, wins the presidency of Botswana. A democratic change that comes 58 years after the country’s independence.
