Bentley Enters Electric Era With London Debut
British luxury carmaker Bentley Motors entered the electric vehicle market on Sept. 23, 2026. The 107-year-old manufacturer unveiled its first fully electric model, the Torcal, at an event in London.
This launch marks a major strategic shift. Bentley is testing wealthy buyers’ appetite for battery-powered luxury while positioning itself to compete directly with Italian sports car rival Ferrari.
Crewe Engineering and Performance Specs
Designed and engineered at Bentley’s manufacturing site in Crewe in northwest England, the Torcal serves as the brand’s fourth model line. It joins the Continental GT, Flying Spur, and Bentayga.
The vehicle features a driving range of up to 600 kilometers. It accelerates from zero to 60 miles per hour in just under three seconds.
Global Markets and Entry-Level Pricing
Bentley Motors Chairman and CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser stated during a media appearance that the new model sits at the entry-level price band for the marque. He added that it has already drawn positive reactions across global markets.

Priced at £173,000, equivalent to roughly $229,000, the Torcal arrives significantly below the cost of Ferrari’s first fully electric offering, the Luce. The Luce debuted three months prior at 550,000 euros, or approximately $626,000.
Rival Debates and Shifting Industry Timelines
Ferrari’s entry into the electric segment sparked intense public debate and criticism over its five-seater layout and departure from traditional sports car aesthetics. However, Walliser noted that Bentley’s development cycle operates independently of competitor reactions.
Other performance brands such as Porsche and Lamborghini have adjusted or scaled back electric vehicle timelines due to soft demand. Addressing these market conditions, Walliser pointed instead to growing acceptance among affluent consumers.
Focus on Core Brand Traits and Custom Soundscapes
He emphasized that Bentley approached the project by focusing on core brand traits.
These include distinct styling, driving behavior, and a custom soundscape to deliver what he termed a true Bentley.
