Exchange sweets for fruit with decorations referring to the children’s party.
This weekend the so-called Halloween celebrations begin and children’s usual trips to the streets, shopping centers and public spaces in the country return, to ask for candy and enjoy costumes.
For this reason parents must take all kinds of measures, especially with all kinds of sweets that are the order of the day, as it is worth remembering that a high intake can cause poisoning and possible health complications.
The Nueva EPS Health Promotion and Maintenance district made a series of recommendations to prevent excessive consumption of sweets from harming the celebration.
In this sense, Mileth Rossana Rodríguez Barrios, Nutritionist at the University Hospital of Mayor Méderi, recommends that parents and adults in general, limit the use of highly processed foods.
“Swap the sweets for fruit with decorations referring to the date. This is an alternative to the high intake of sweets for children,” the expert pointed out.
He added that when children eat quantities of sugars, they can increase the predisposition to develop type I diabetes, as well as overweight and morbid obesity, which results from the reduction in macronutrients that are necessary for the body.
Beware of poisoning
Check the candy your child has collected. Discard candies that are broken, damp or have damaged packaging. Avoid eating foods that are open, do not have health registration, or have expired.
“Candy must have a characteristic smell, colour, taste and texture and remain during storage until final consumption. Reject any product that has strange colors or flavors,” Highlights of Rodríguez.

They should not be discolored or have fungus (you can recognize them as white dots). Control your children’s intake of sweets and candy. High sugar consumption can cause kidney and cardiovascular damage, change brain structures associated with memory, cognitive deficits, obesity, diabetes and cavities.
What to do in case of poisoning?
When poisoning is suspected, the first thing is to guarantee the condition of the child and attend the exclusive IPS or, if necessary, the emergency department, to receive the necessary care.
It is important to save a sample of the product and remember the possible places where it could have been bought, so that the corresponding authorities can visit it.
