The release features a guest verse from JAŸ-Z and an acoustic version of the track, serving as part of a larger campaign to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Beyoncé’s album B’Day.

The original version of MORNING DEW (DONK) debuted on July 4, 2026, marking Beyoncé’s first new music release in two years. According to SPIN, the song was written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream, and Darius Dixon, with production handled by Beyoncé and Williams.

JAŸ-Z guest appearance on MORNING DEW (DONK) remix

The newly released remix pack introduces JAŸ-Z as a collaborator on the track. In his verse, JAŸ-Z raps, My watch is vintage / I don’t need nothin’ new and We just makin’ love / we just gettin’ rich / Y’all keep doin’ that / we keep doin’ this, according to SPIN.

JAŸ-Z also includes the line, I caught a fuckn*gga hatin on my wrist / I caught a hoe n*gga hatin on my bitch. This appearance marks his first high-profile guest feature since appearing on the 2022 track God Did by DJ Khaled, SPIN reports.

The remix pack includes an acoustic version of the song that retains the JAŸ-Z verse.

B’Day 20th anniversary campaign context

The release of MORNING DEW (DONK) serves as the opening chapter of a countdown leading to the 20th anniversary of the B’Day album. The track is described by SPIN as a reconnection with the adventurous R&B style that characterized that era of Beyoncé’s career.

SPIN previously ranked B’Day No. 129 in its list of the 300 Best Albums of 1985-2014. In its analysis of the album, the publication noted the influence of Betty Wright’s 1968 song Girls Can’t Do What The Guys Do on the track Upgrade U.

The analysis from SPIN further stated that on the occasion of her 25th birthday, Beyoncé’s feminism on the album was primarily focused on paying one’s own way and doing one’s best to keep rivals out of chinchilla coats.
