Bhumidham Leads Discussion on Flood Relief
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Phumtham Wechayachai, chaired a meeting to discuss flood relief efforts and announced the approval of a 3,000 million baht budget to aid victims of floods, storms, and mudslides.
Meeting Objectives
- Follow up on situation information and integrate work to resolve problems
- Integrate and connect information on water resources and forecast and analyze weather conditions
- Coordinate assistance to disaster victims and provide shelter, food, and survival equipment
- Disseminate news to the public to keep them informed in a timely manner
- Invite relevant agencies and outsiders to join in problem-solving
- Report operational results
Establishment of a War Room
Phumitham announced that the meeting room will be used as a war room to coordinate various issues and that anyone with problems can report them to the center immediately.
Working Group to Study Relief Model
A working group has been set up to study the relief model and provide additional compensation to victims. The group will submit its findings to the Cabinet within a week.
Public Relations Working Group
A public relations working group has been established to provide clarifications to the public and to take care of the people affected by the floods.
Early Warning System
The meeting discussed the establishment of an early warning system that will include the Geoinformatics and Space Technology Development Agency, Hydroinformatics Institute, Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, and the Meteorological Department.
Current Flood Situation
As of September 19, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that 30 provinces have been affected by floods, with 153 districts, 704 sub-districts, and 3,747 villages affected. A total of 45 people have died and 24 have been injured.
Affected Areas
Currently, there is still a flood situation in 6 provinces, with 31 districts, 165 sub-districts, and 910 villages affected.
