‌ ⁢

Joe Biden, the‍ former U.S. ‍president, is battling an ⁤aggressive form of prostate cancer,‍ his office announced Sunday. The diagnosis follows Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential⁣ race ⁢last summer, which was largely attributed to concerns ‍about his age and overall health. The ‍former president,82,has ⁣a tragic history with cancer, having lost his son,Beau Biden,to glioblastoma in 2015.

Doctors ⁢discovered the‍ cancer after biden ⁤reported increasing urinary symptoms. The diagnosis revealed a ‍Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the ‌bone. Despite the ‌severity, the cancer’s hormone sensitivity offers avenues for management, ⁣according to his office. Biden and his family are now ‌consulting with physicians to determine‍ the best course of treatment for this prostate cancer diagnosis.

Since leaving ⁢office,⁤ Biden had increased his public ‍profile, ⁣including an appearance on “The View.” He also hired a communications strategist amid critical reviews of his time in the ‌White House. His ⁢previous efforts to combat cancer include launching the “cancer moonshot” ⁣initiative during his vice presidency, which he later revived ⁤during his time as president.

The⁣ spread to the‍ bones presents challenges, but the cancer’s receptiveness‌ to hormone therapy could help slow its progression. Biden exited the ‍2024 race after a debate performance against Donald Trump ‍raised concerns about his fitness for office.⁣ He then endorsed Kamala ‌Harris, who ultimately ⁢lost to Trump in November.

Harris⁤ expressed her support via X, stating, “We ⁣are keeping him, Dr.Biden,⁢ and their entire family in our hearts and prayers during this time. Joe is a fighter.”

“We are keeping him, Dr. Biden, and their entire family in our hearts and prayers during this ‍time,” she wrote. “Joe is a fighter — and I know he will⁣ face this challenge⁢ with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always ⁣defined his ⁢life and leadership. We are ⁣hopeful for a full and⁤ speedy recovery.”

Trump also acknowledged⁤ Biden’s diagnosis on Truth‍ Social, saying,”Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis…we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

“Melania and ⁤I are saddened to⁤ hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to⁣ Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and ⁤successful⁢ recovery,” ‍he wrote.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom⁢ joined⁢ other politicians⁤ in offering well wishes. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) also said his family is praying⁤ for the ⁣former president.

“Our ‍hearts are with President biden and ‌his ⁣entire family right now. A man of dignity,⁣ strength, and compassion like his deserves to live a long and beautiful⁢ life. Sending strength, healing and prayers his‍ way,”⁣ Newsom wrote on X.
