(Washington = Yonhap News) Correspondent Kim Kyung-hee = US President Joe Biden is announcing strengthened quarantine guidelines to respond to Omicron, a new mutation of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Instead of large-scale lockdown measures or travel restrictions, booster shot vaccination is the top priority, and it has focused on strengthening some quarantine measures, such as making it mandatory for all travelers to submit a negative COVID-19 test a day before entering the United States.

“President Biden is announcing new quarantine guidelines in preparation for the advent of Omicron and the winter season,” the White House said in a press release on the 2nd (local time). have it,” he said.

The new guidelines put a priority on increasing the vaccination rate of the COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.

The current number of unvaccinated adults in the U.S. is estimated at 43 million. Rather than persuade them to increase the vaccination rate, urging the 10 million people who have not received the booster shot among those already vaccinated to strengthen the quarantine network. It is judged to be more effective.

To this end, while strengthening public relations, it plans to conduct direct contact with the vulnerable, aged 63 and older, to encourage vaccination.

According to the Washington Post estimate, the vaccination rate in the U.S. was 59.4% as of one day, which was virtually unchanged from a month ago (58%).

President Biden has also repeatedly called for the introduction of mandatory vaccination regulations for large businesses, while also issuing separate quarantine guidelines for schools.

In the case of students who have not been vaccinated, if close contact is suspected, they will continue to go to school, but it is said that it will include a plan to make it compulsory to wear a mask and continue to be tested for COVID-19.

For easy self-diagnosis at home, private health insurance will cover the cost of self-diagnosis kits, and the kits will be distributed free of charge to some multi-sites such as schools, nursing homes and prisons.

There are no additional travel restrictions for overseas travelers, but starting next week, all travelers entering the United States will be required to submit a limited COVID-19 negative confirmation within one day of departure, regardless of whether they have been vaccinated or nationality.

This is a strengthening of the rule, which was within three days for those who were vaccinated.

However, the White House temporarily suspended measures such as separate tests and quarantines after entering the country.

In addition, the mandatory measures to wear masks in public transportation facilities such as trains and airplanes will be extended.
