Biden Signs Executive Order to Enhance School Safety
US President Biden has signed an executive order to address the growing threat of 3D printed and modified guns and improve school shooting response drills.
President Biden stated, “I never thought I’d have to sign something like this, but we did.” The order aims to strengthen school safety measures and establish a new federal task force to assess the threat posed by modified firearms devices.
The move comes after a mass shooting in Alabama on Saturday that left four people dead, involving a gun allegedly using a modified device, sparking calls for new laws.
Leadership Changes at OpenAI
OpenAI has experienced significant changes at the top, with Technical Director Mira Murati, Chief Research Officer Bob McGrew, and Vice President of Research Barret Zoph resigning on September 25.
Mulati announced his resignation through social media, stating that he would explore new directions. CEO Sam Altman responded, saying that the departure of the three executives was an amicable and independent decision.
Altman emphasized that these changes will help the company’s leadership transition smoothly.
New York Man Faces Life in Prison for Sexually Assaulting 13-Year-Old Girl
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced on September 26 that Christian Inga, an undocumented immigrant from Ecuador, has been indicted by the Queens Superior Court grand jury on 16 counts, including predatory sexual assault, for allegedly sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in Kissena Corridor Park in Flushing in June this year.
Inga faces up to life in prison if convicted.
Affordable Housing Units Available in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards
“The Maybury”, a high-end residential building located in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards, has been completed with 453 units, 114 of which are affordable housing. Lottery applications will close on October 9, 2024.
The units are intended for residents earning between 70% and 125% of the local median income, with annual incomes ranging from $59,280 to $209,625; rents range from $1,655 to $3,861 per month.
The building provides a variety of facilities, including a 24-hour lobby, gym, rooftop lounge, etc. Applicants must meet income and family size requirements.
