Biden Warns Israel on Rafah Attack, Halts Offensive Weapon Supply

CNN interview… “Support for defensive weapons like Iron Dome continues… Deterrence in attacking densely populated areas.”
“Israel’s ‘red line’ has not yet been crossed… Trump will not recognize the results of the presidential election” US President Joe Biden said on the 8th (local time) that if Israel launches a large-scale attack on Rafah, the southernmost city in the Gaza Strip, it will provide offensive weapons and artillery shells announcing that it would end.

President Biden said in a CNN interview that day, “Civilians are dying in Gaza from bombs and other attacks,” and “If they’re advancing on Rafah, they haven’t come in yet, but I’m n believe they have done well in dealing with Rafah and other cities so far.” “We made it clear that we would not support the weapons that were used,” he said.

This is the first time that President Biden, who has expressed concern about the attack on Rafah, where more than 1 million Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip are concentrated, has publicly warned of Israel’s ground war in Rafah and announced policy to stop supplying arms to Israel.

The United States has maintained a policy of active support for Israel since the attack on Israel by the Palestinian armed faction Hamas on October 7 last year.

However, as criticism grows not only in the international community but also within the US Democratic Party due to the massive damage to Palestinian civilians, President Biden’s political position before the presidential election is narrowing more and more.

The US government previously expressed its opposition to a ground battle in Rafah, fearing damage to civilians, and prevented the shipment of one high-explosive bomb that was supposed to be provided to Israel.

CNN said, “The policy of cutting off support for offensive weapons to Israel could be a turning point in the seven-month war between Israel and Hamas,” and added, “President Biden’s admission that American bombs have been used to kill civilians in Gaza. A strip is a big step forward in this war.” “It clearly shows the role of the United States,” he said.

President Biden, however, made it clear that he intends to continue providing defensive weapons, including ammunition to support the Iron Dome, an air defense weapon system, for the defense of Israel.

“We will ensure that we maintain the ability to respond to recent attacks in Iron Dome and in the Middle East,” said President Biden “But this (a large-scale attack on Rafah) is wrong.

“We will not provide weapons or shells,” he declared.

When asked if Israel had crossed the ‘red line’, President Biden said, “Not yet,” and added, “But we are in a situation where we are stopping arms shipments.”

“They didn’t go into populated areas,” said President Biden.

“What they did was on the border,” he said “This is a problem with Egypt, and it is a problem in a relationship where we have worked very hard.”

He also said, “We have made it clear to Bibi (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu) and the war cabinet that they will not receive our support if they go into populated areas.”

President Biden confirmed his unwavering support for the ‘two-state solution’, saying he was cooperating with Arab countries to prepare for the outcome of the Gaza War.

Meanwhile, President Biden declared in an interview that day that former President Donald Trump, with whom a rematch is expected, will not accept the results of this presidential election.

President Biden said, “I can assure you that he will not accept the results of the presidential election.”
