In a new BBC documentary,Blumenthal speaks candidly with his son,Jack,about the challenges they faced during his undiagnosed mental illness.

He said that seeing his father became an ordeal that required weeks of planning, only to be met with constant, erratic behavior. ”There was nothing I could do to help you,” Jack Blumenthal said.

However, behind the scenes, he felt he was simply “wired differently,” attributing his emotional highs and lows to his creative process.
