Birmingham Shooting Leaves 4 Dead and Multiple Injured, Police Investigate Possible Hired Murder

On the evening of September 21, local time, a devastating shooting occurred in Birmingham, Alabama, in the southeastern United States, claiming the lives of four people and injuring many others. The police investigation has revealed that the shooting may be a case of hired murder.

About 100 bullet casings were found at the scene, indicating the severity of the incident. According to City Police Chief Scott Thurmond, a car stopped on the sidewalk outside a bar, and “several gunmen” got out and shot, then fled the scene.

Two men and one woman died on the spot after being injured, and another man died after being sent to the hospital. Some of the injured were in serious condition and even in danger of death. The police are trying to identify the type of weapon used by the gunman, and investigators believe one was a “fully automatic” gun.

The police issued a statement saying that the gunman is believed to have used a “machine gun conversion device” to increase the rate of fire of a semi-automatic weapon. According to Thurmond, police believe the shooting may be a hired murder case targeting one of the victims.

The neighborhood where the incident occurred is close to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, with many entertainment venues, restaurants, and bars popular among local young people. It is often crowded on weekend nights.

Survivor Gabriel Eslami, 24, described the scene as “like a horror movie” as he ran away from the shooting. He saw many people lying on the sidewalk and the smoke from the gunshots was everywhere. He didn’t realize he was injured until he suddenly lost feeling in one of his legs.

Shootings have become a widespread concern in the United States, with Birmingham experiencing several mass shootings this year. Mayor Randall Woodfin expressed his disappointment at the rampant gun violence in Birmingham and the United States, stating that “gun violence is spreading like an epidemic across the country. Unfortunately, Birmingham is the epicenter of this problem.”

The mayor emphasized that the top priority now is to “find those shooters and get them off our streets.” He said local, state, and national officials “all have a responsibility to address the crisis of gun violence in America.”

According to statistics from the U.S. “Gun Violence Archive” website, as of September 23, there have been more than 400 mass shootings in the United States this year, resulting in at least four deaths and injuries. The federal government is investigating the mass shooting together with state and local officials.
