Blackstone Adds Joseph Cassanelli to tactical Opportunities Group
Blackstone has named Joseph Cassanelli, previously a co-head at Lazard’s U.S. Financial Institutions Group, as a senior managing director within its Tactical Opportunities (Tac Opps) platform. Cassanelli, based in New York, will concentrate on investment opportunities within the financial services sector, bolstering Blackstone’s financial services investment strategy.
Cassanelli brings more then 20 years of advisory experience to Blackstone, having overseen transactions valued at over $500 billion during his time at Lazard. His prior work includes advising on Blackstone’s IPO and C-Corp conversion, as well as financial services and insurance deals across Tac Opps and Blackstone Credit & Insurance. He also chaired lazard’s U.S. Fairness Opinion Committee and previously held positions at Wasserstein Perella & Co. and Deloitte.

Blackstone launched Tactical Opportunities in 2012 to target non-traditional private equity and private credit investments. The platform currently manages $34 billion in assets. In 2023, Blackstone closed its record-sized Tactical Opportunities Fund IV, expected to deploy nearly $10 billion in new capital across its fourth vintage, further expanding its private credit opportunities.
