Blizzard Cancels BlizzCon: What’s Next for the Gaming Event?

Blizzard has suddenly canceled this year’s BlizzCon, its gaming event. Instead, attend other events or host e-sports events.

Blizzard announced on the 26th on its website that it has decided not to hold BlizzCon, scheduled for November this year. As this is an event of special significance, the decision was not made lightly, but after careful consideration over the past year.

Instead of canceling BlizzCon, Blizzard announced that it would be participating in other events. Blizzard said: “We want to approach things a little differently this year. “We have held events in a unique format in the past,” he said, revealing plans to participate in future events.

First, he said that he intends to provide information about “World of Warcraft: Internal War”, which will be released in the second half of this year, and about “Vessel of Hatred”, the first expansion pack for “Diablo 4”, as well the next few months.

Additionally, they announced that they will participate in various events, including Gamescom, to commemorate the release of a new game that will be released soon and to provide a place for exchange and harmony in the community. Additionally, there are plans to hold events to commemorate the 30th anniversary of “Overwatch Champions Series” and “Warcraft” within the game. In other words, the policy is to hold small events for individual games rather than one large event.

Blizzard’s decision appears to have been influenced by the Microsoft acquisition and the evaluation of BlizzCon held last year. BlizzCon was held until 2019, but was not held for three years due to the impact of COVID-19, and was held at the Anaheim Convention Center in 2023 for the first time in four years.

However, only expansion content for existing games was revealed in this event and there were no new games or surprise additions, so overall it did not receive good reviews. Therefore, there is speculation that the event itself may have been canceled because there were no major new games to reveal at this year’s BlizzCon.

Additionally, Microsoft is trying to improve its finances by laying off up to 1,900 gaming-related employees at Activision Blizzard and Xbox earlier this year. Since organizing a large event costs a lot, some argue that this may have influenced the cancellation of the event.
