The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed infielder ildemaro Alfonzo Kiner-Falefa off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates, the team announced on Sunday, August 25, 2024. This move brings the 30-year-old back to the organization after he was traded to Pittsburgh at the trade deadline for minor-league infielder Charles McAdoo.
Kiner-Falefa became available after the Pirates designated him for assignment and then released him on outright waivers on Saturday,August 24,2024. By claiming him now, he is eligible for the Blue Jays’ postseason roster.

This season, Kiner-Falefa has appeared in 119 games, posting a .264 batting average, .300 on-base percentage, and .332 slugging percentage with one home run and 35 RBIs. He has also demonstrated speed and versatility, recording 15 stolen bases while playing both shortstop and third base.
During his previous stint with the Blue Jays in 2023, Kiner-Falefa showcased offensive potential, hitting.292 with seven home runs across 83 games.
Roster Moves
to make room for Kiner-Falefa on the 40-man roster, reliever Yimi Garcia was transferred to the 60-day injured list. Garcia’s season was ended due to injury.
The Blue Jays currently have the chance to add one pitcher and one position player to their roster, effective September 1, 2024, as per Major League Baseball rules.
