An accident occurred when a Boeing 767 cargo plane operated by the American express delivery company FedEx landed at Turkye Airport due to a lack of landing gear.
According to the Ministry of Transport on the 8th (local time), an unexpected situation occurred where the front wheels did not come down on a Boeing 767 cargo plane that was about to land at Istanbul International Airport this morning. The pilot, who noticed the problem, immediately requested emergency landing permission from the control tower, and the cargo plane landed as is.
A video of the situation at the time shows the cargo plane starting to land with only the rear wheels, and then the front part of the plane being swept over the runway. A scene of red-hot flames and smoke rising from the lower part of the fuselage that touched the runway was also filmed.
It was a dizzying crash, but fortunately, no injuries were reported, including the two pilots. The airport is currently in the process of temporarily closing and repairing the runway where the emergency landing took place. He also said there would be no impact on other flight operations.
Meanwhile, there is controversy as major and minor accidents with Boeing aircraft have occurred one after the other recently. In January this year, an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 passenger plane had an accident where a window and part of a wall were torn off while flying at an altitude of about 5,000 metres. As a result of an investigation by the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) at the time, it was determined that four bolts securing the door were missing during assembly of the aircraft.
Last March, an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-800 passenger plane was diverted after smoke was detected in the cabin. A few days later, an accident occurred when a United Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 ran off the runway after landing. Most recently, on the 26th of last month, an accident occurred when the emergency escape slide of a Delta Air Lines Boeing 767 passenger plane separated after takeoff.
