Boeing is making strides in the airplane manufacturing industry, securing 303 gross orders for new airplanes in May. This represents the company’s strongest performance since December 2023. The company delivered 45 aircraft in May, a figure consistent with the previous month but substantially higher than the 24 delivered in May of the previous year. Through May, boeing has delivered 220 airplanes this year, while Airbus has delivered 243. Airplane deliveries are crucial for both companies,as they represent the point at which the bulk of the aircraft’s price is paid.
After accounting for cancellations and conversions, Boeing has recorded net orders for 512 airplanes this year, surpassing Airbus’s 215. The Paris Air Show next week could bring even more deals as companies showcase new technology and aircraft.
The FAA limited Boeing’s 737 Max production to 38 per month following an incident in January when a door plug blew out of a nearly new Max 9 during a flight from Portland, OR. While no serious injuries occurred, the event created a safety crisis that impacted Boeing’s output.
Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg saeid the company plans to stabilize production at the current rate of 38 per month before seeking FAA approval to increase it. last month, Boeing secured 345 net orders, including 146 for 737 Maxes and 157 for 787 Dreamliners and the yet-to-be-certified 777X planes, part of a large wide-body order from Qatar Airways signed during President Donald Trump’s visit to Doha, Qatar.
Ortberg also indicated that Boeing anticipates resuming airplane deliveries to Chinese airlines this month, following a pause during trade tensions between the Trump administration and beijing. To date, Boeing has received 606 net orders this year, with a backlog of 5,943 at the end of May. The company is focused on increasing airplane production and fulfilling its existing orders.
