Boost Your Lifespan: How Coffee Can Add Nearly Two Years and Lower Disease Risks
Drinking coffee regularly may add nearly two years to your life. A recent study published in the journal Ageing Research Reviews links coffee consumption to a decreased risk of several diseases. This includes heart and respiratory diseases, stroke, certain cancers, diabetes, dementia, and major depression.
The study analyzed existing data on coffee and its effects, finding that regular coffee drinkers enjoy an average of 1.84 additional years of life. Researchers observed that coffee can also improve resilience to stress.
Scientists identified over 2,000 compounds in coffee. Some of these compounds have anti-inflammatory properties, while others act as antioxidants, which can influence health and longevity. Chlorogenic acid, a component found in coffee, may help with anxiety and stress and has potential benefits for those with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Researchers from the University of Coimbra in Portugal recommend enjoying coffee for its many health benefits, especially in older age.
