Boosting Bilateral Ties: OTR Seeks to Deepen Cooperation with Chinese Customs

For “stronger bilateral cooperation”, the Togolese Revenue Office (OTR) expects to strengthen its cooperation with Chinese customs. This cooperation will be strengthened with authorized economic operators (AEO).

According to our colleagues from Togofirst, “on Monday October 21, 2024, the Togolese organization responsible for collecting tax and customs resources received a delegation of Chinese customs, led by the Deputy Director of Customs GongBei (including the Port, from the same name, is an entry point on mainland China’s border with Macau).

The discussions focused on establishing bilateral cooperation on AEOs. Ultimately, the approach will allow companies that respect compliance and security standards to access simplified customs procedures, reducing processing times and facilitating trade between Togo and China.

Please note that this visit follows a previous one, by an OTR delegation to China last May. This helped lay the foundations for the harmonization of customs standards and trade facilitation. On the sidelines of these discussions, Dr. Philippe Kokou Tchodie, Commissioner General of the OTR, emphasized the importance of this cooperation for the economic development of Togo, which is preparing to take a new step in its relationship with China.

According to the Togolese tax authorities, their exchanges made it possible to “lay the foundations for facilitating commercial exchanges and harmonizing customs standards between the two countries within a framework of reinforced bilateral cooperation. »
