Borderlands 4: Early Release Due to GTA 6?

Borderlands 4, the latest part of the shooter series from Gearbox, will be released earlier than planned, namely on September 12, 2025 instead of September 23, 2025. But what is the reason for the shift?

Officially, Borderlands 4 appears for an early release date because the development “goes very well”, Pitchford claims. However, it is obvious that another reason could have played a role in the shift: namely the publication date of GTA 6. Because although Rockstar has not yet officially announced the latter, Borderland’s’ Publisher 2K, which in turn belongs to Take-Two (the parent company of rock star), should at least sit at the source when it comes to any releasing planning.

Those responsible at Gearbox will probably already know when GTA 6 will be released, and have therefore decided to publish Borderlands 4 at an earlier time than originally planned. Accordingly, it would be possible that GTA 6 will be released in autumn 2025, i.e. at the end of September or early October 2025.

Meanwhile, Pitchford has denied it on X that a possible release date of GTA 6 was the reason for the shift. On the social media platform, he wrote that the decision is based on “100 percent” on the team’s trust in the progress in the development of Borderlands 4.
