February 22, 2024 (local time) – BorisFX announced the 3D particle application “Particle Illusion Pro”.
What is Particle Illusion Pro?
Particle Illusion Pro is a powerful particle generator that gives you quick access to 3D particles. A tool that lets you quickly create photorealistic particle effects for motion graphics, visual effects, titles, and lower thirds.
The standalone version of Particle Illusion was previously available for free, but it appears to have become a paid version with the Pro version. Particle Illusion Pro is available as a completely standalone application and as a plugin included in the Continuum suite.
Main features
■Fluid dynamics
With Fluid Dynamics, you can transform existing emitters into complex real-world fluid and swirling animations, or create your own custom animations. Contains over 20 new professionally designed presets.
■Work in 3D
Manipulate emitters, forces and deflectors in 3D with an integrated camera that navigates the generated particle field using position, pan and trajectory modes. Includes depth of field and motion blur.
■Forces and deflectors
Force objects let you add force fields for complex, realistic particle motion, from chaotic vortices to controlled flows and even fluid dynamics. The Deflector object makes it easy to simulate particles interacting with logos and other graphics, allowing them to bounce and interact seamlessly.
■Lines and turbulence
Particles can be combined with main emitters, spawn points, and other particles to create new geometric images. Turbulence changes the position and size of particles with a self-evolving organic noise field. You can express subtle wave movements, wild particle dispersion, etc.
■Simple, preset-based workflow
Particle Illusion comes with thousands of preset emitters (via a separate free installer). The built-in search feature makes it easy to find the effect you’re looking for, and the live preview lets you click and drag to see how it works. You can use it as is or change the values in the control panel to adjust position, shape, duration, number size, etc. You can also create new presets by saving tuned emitters to a custom emitter library.
■ Node-based navigation
Particle Illusion lets you create extremely complex effects, but the node view makes it easier than ever to work with and customize them. Simply select an emitter or particle node and the corresponding parameters will appear in the control view.

Recent additions
Improved particle trails and lines
Add new effects to most particle simulations by drawing particle trajectories as a new lines option. You can also feather the ends of the line or change the thickness depending on the size of the particles.
Updated gradient editor and presets
The gradient editor has been significantly improved with new “flip” and “space” actions, full undo/redo, random gradient generator, and new color and alpha gradient presets.
Deflector and strength improvements
Deflectors and forces are important particle “influencers” and both have been updated in 2023.5
- Deflectors are now 3D and can now rotate, set depth, and animate in 3D space
- Improved deflector reliability: no more “leaks” from corners or unexpected bounces
- “Direction Turbulence” has been added to Forces, allowing you to add organic motion to particles without fluid dynamics.
easier to use
The control view (parameter list) has been redesigned to organize related parameters into labeled sections. Additionally, the 2023 version introduced a “de-emphasis” parameter that darkens parameters that do not affect the output.
Use the 3D model as an emitter
3D widgets make it easy to work with emitters and other 3D objects.
3D widgets
You can use C4D or OBJ files as particle emitters. There are numerous output options and the ability to draw wireframes of your model so you can get a fresh look. Includes several ready-to-use templates, as well as exciting presets using them. You can position, rotate and scale objects directly on the Stage in a more intuitive process, making your workflow more streamlined.

Pricing and system requirements
Particle Illusion Pro is available for Windows 10 and 11, MacOS Catalina 10.15 and later.
The standalone version of Particle Illusion Pro costs $25 per month or $195 per year with subscription. Particle Illusion Pro is also included as a plugin in Continuum.
