DerbyS⁤ Sandy Ryan, 31, ​is determined to reignite her boxing career after considering retirement⁢ following ⁣successive defeats by Mikaela Mayer.⁤ Ryan lost her WBO welterweight world ‍title​ to Mayer in a contentious ‌match last September and was later defeated in ‍a rematch in ⁣March.

Following two⁣ physically and emotionally taxing encounters in the U.S., Ryan admitted to feeling devastated by⁢ her performance.She told BBC‌ Radio⁢ Derby that she felt disoriented during ⁢the rematch, struggling to react ‍and feeling detached from the fight.

The first⁤ fight⁢ against​ Mayer was further ‌complicated when an unknown individual threw paint on Ryan as‌ she left her ⁢hotel the‍ night before ‍the bout. While ‌Ryan described the scorecards ‌in the initial fight as questionable, she conceded that Mayer deserved​ the unanimous points victory‍ in the rematch.

“After the fight, I thought I was done,” she said. “I was ⁢finished boxing. ‍And then‍ a​ few‍ weeks after,​ I had been back home for a while and after a few weeks the ​fight was still in me. I still have so much to give.”
