Following two physically and emotionally taxing encounters in the U.S., Ryan admitted to feeling devastated by her performance.She told BBC Radio Derby that she felt disoriented during the rematch, struggling to react and feeling detached from the fight.
The first fight against Mayer was further complicated when an unknown individual threw paint on Ryan as she left her hotel the night before the bout. While Ryan described the scorecards in the initial fight as questionable, she conceded that Mayer deserved the unanimous points victory in the rematch.
“After the fight, I thought I was done,” she said. “I was finished boxing. And then a few weeks after, I had been back home for a while and after a few weeks the fight was still in me. I still have so much to give.”
