Heroic Boy’s Highway Rescue Saves Thrown Cat

While driving her son, Gavin, to a birthday party, Erin Brown witnessed a shocking act: a cat was thrown from a moving car on Highway 196. without hesitation, Gavin leaped into action, braving oncoming traffic to save the animal.
Brown recounted the harrowing experience, saying Gavin “flew out of my car onto the highway and diving into an overpass to rescue a cat.” The traumatized feline, later named Lucky, was gasping for air and had torn nails from struggling on the pavement.
Gavin’s immediate concern was to comfort the injured cat. “He cuddled right into Gavin’s arms,” Brown said, “and Gavin held him tightly and just kept petting him to show him that we wouldn’t hurt him and gain the cat’s trust.”
The family rushed lucky to BluePearl Animal Hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries. The bond between Gavin and Lucky was instantaneous. According to Brown, “Gavin was not letting go of his new baby. The bond was instant, and he was a hot emotional mess over this cat.”
Touched by their story, a stranger on Facebook offered to help with the medical expenses. Brown recounted Gavin’s emotional response: “He then said, ‘I’ll also give the $63 I have to pay for my new cat to go with that to get us closer to the total.’ my heart just swelled with gratitude.”
Today, Lucky is thriving in his new home with Gavin. Brown describes their bond as indescribable. “Lucky is well aware that Gavin saved him, and their bond is one I just can’t describe,” she said. “Lucky is so far the sweetest cat I have ever met! he is so mellow and playful and just plain lovable!” This act of animal rescue highlights the importance of compassion.
