Firefighters brought a natural fire under control early this morning near budel-Dorplein, a town situated on the border between the Noord-Brabant and Limburg provinces. The blaze, which ignited around 10 p.m., was contained by approximately 1:45 a.m.
The fire department issued a widespread alert due to the fire’s rapid spread, fueled by persistent drought conditions and strong winds in the area.
According to a fire department spokesperson, the fire consumed a stretch of land hundreds of meters in length. One fire brigade platoon, equipped with six fire trucks, actively combatted the flames. A second platoon was placed on standby but ultimately was not needed.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined. Authorities confirmed that the fire posed no immediate threat to residential areas.
Across much of the Netherlands, the risk of natural fires is elevated. Last month alone, officials estimate that more than 80 such fires occurred nationwide.
