Deadly Hot Air Balloon Crash in Brazil Kills Eight
At least eight people died and 13 were injured Saturday when a hot air balloon caught fire and crashed in Praia Grande, Santa Catarina, Brazil, officials saeid. Video circulating on social media showed people falling from the burning aircraft as it plummeted to the ground.

Sobrevoar, the company operating the balloon, stated it is indeed complying with all regulations and had no prior accident history.The company has suspended all operations indefinitely following the tragedy. The hot air balloon role in tourism for the area is now under review.
Gov. Jorginho Mello said the state is providing support to victims and families. He has requested a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident.
“We are in mourning. A tragedy has happened… the critically important thing now is for the state structure to do what it can,” Mello said.
According to police, the pilot, a survivor, reported a fire erupted inside the balloon’s basket. He attempted to lower the balloon and ordered passengers to jump before it crashed. Some were unable to escape the flames.
The hot air balloon flights typically last 45 minutes,reaching altitudes of 1,000 meters,and cost about $100 per passenger.Praia Grande is a popular destination for hot air ballooning, especially during June festivities.
A similar incident occurred last week in São Paulo state, where a balloon crash killed one and injured 11.There have been several fatal hot air balloon accidents worldwide in recent years, raising concerns about hot air balloon safety and the role of regulations.
