Breaking Barriers: Laughter Unites in Groundbreaking ‘Black Comedy’ Featuring Actors of All Abilities

Recently, plays and musical stages are making new attempts in various efforts to expand cultural accessibility.

Today, we introduce a black comedy play created by disabled and non-disabled people together.

Reporter Gwang-yeon Lee reports.

One day, a plush doll wakes up in an air box and struggles to live a normal existence.

This is the play ‘Fred’, a story about a puppeteer who becomes his arms and legs.

A work created by the British Hijinx Theater Company, which is considered a leader in lowering the stage threshold for disabled actors.

‘Fred’, which has traveled to 130 cities in 19 countries, will be held in a language other than English for the first time in Korea after 5 years.

The production team of ‘Fred’ points out that relatively few opportunities are given to disabled actors in Korea.

So, as we follow the story of Fred and those around him, it naturally overlaps with the reality of disabled artists on stage.

Non-disabled actors, who started the show with apprehensions at first, say it is a special time to get back to the basics of acting.

Fred, a black comedy that unfolds a pleasant but sharp theme with ingenious imagination,

Korean subtitles are provided for all episodes, and sign language conveys messages to more people in another language.
