Retired General’s Actions Spark Controversy
(Central News Agency reporter Yu Kaixiang, Taipei, 3rd) Media reports have surfaced that Zhang Yuxia, a retired general and former chairman of the Kuomintang’s Huang Fuxing Party Department, attended an event in Hong Kong and stood up to hear the Chinese national anthem.
The Ministry of National Defense has responded to the incident, stating that if the situation is serious, monthly discharge pay may be withheld, and honors and medals may be canceled. The Ministry will take action according to the law if the truth of the related behavior is found after investigation.
According to reports, Zhang Yuxia stood up to listen to China’s national anthem during an event in August, where he had traveled to Hong Kong to promote unification.
The Ministry of National Defense has emphasized that retired generals who participate in party, government, and military activities organized by the Mainland may be penalized under certain conditions, including the withholding of retirement allowance.
In serious cases, the Ministry may also deprive individuals of monthly discharge benefits and cancel their honors and medals. Those who commit crimes of internal strife and foreign aggression will be punished under the National Security Act and other provisions.
