Suicide Prevention Counseling Service ‘Madelan’ Officially Launched

The Life Insurance Social Contribution Foundation has announced the official launch of ‘Madelan’, a national suicide prevention counseling service, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Life Respect Hope Foundation. This initiative coincides with World Suicide Prevention Day, aiming to provide emotional support and hope to those struggling with suicidal thoughts.

What is Madelan?

‘Madelan’ is an abbreviation for ‘A friend who listens to your heart’, offering a national SNS counseling service that provides psychological stability and hope to individuals struggling emotionally through online counseling. This service is accessible to anyone in need, ensuring a supportive and non-judgmental space for those seeking help.

Accessing Madelan

Madelan is easily accessible through a dedicated application, text message (109), or KakaoTalk Plus Friend (Madelan). The service provides 24-hour suicide prevention counseling, with professional counselors available to offer support and guidance. In critical situations, individuals are connected to a professional organization to ensure timely intervention and rescue from a suicide crisis.

Partnership and Support

The Life Insurance Foundation is responsible for planning, establishing, and maintaining the counseling system. The Ministry of Health and Welfare supports policy planning and operating budget, while the Korea Life Respect Hope Foundation is responsible for recruiting and managing counselors. This collaborative effort ensures a comprehensive and effective approach to addressing the growing concern of suicide prevention.

Lee Jang-woo, chairman of the Life Insurance Foundation, emphasized the significance of launching a suicide prevention counseling service on World Suicide Prevention Day.
