Brexit Blues: Over Half of Britons Now Yearn to Rejoin the EU – Would a Second Referendum Seal the Deal
Majority of Britons Want to Rejoin the European Union, Poll Reveals
A recent poll conducted by Redfield & Wilton Strategies, a British market research company, has shown that a significant majority of British people want to rejoin the European Union. The poll, which gathered data from a representative sample of the British population, found that 56% of respondents would vote to rejoin the EU if given the opportunity.
Among voters who participated in the 2016 referendum and voted to leave the EU, 23% expressed regret over their decision and stated that they would now vote to join the EU. This shift in opinion is particularly notable among younger voters, with 61% of 18- to 24-year-olds who did not vote in the last referendum stating that they would vote in favor of rejoining the EU.
The poll also found that more than half (52%) of voters believe that another Brexit referendum should be held within the next five years, while 34% are opposed to the idea. Furthermore, 34% of respondents expect a second referendum to take place within the next decade, while 31% disagree.
The poll also explored the perceived impact of Brexit on various aspects of British life. A significant majority (58%) of respondents believe that Brexit has resulted in a higher cost of living, while 18% believe that it has led to lower costs. Additionally, 31% of respondents believe that Brexit has led to lower salaries, while 18% believe that it has resulted in higher salaries.
Regarding the impact of Brexit on the UK’s global influence, 40% of respondents believe that it has made it harder for the UK to sell goods overseas, while 17% believe that it has made it easier. Moreover, 40% of respondents believe that Brexit has led to a decline in Britain’s influence on the world stage, while 21% believe that it has increased.
The poll also found that 45% of respondents believe that the National Health Service (NHS) has become worse as a result of Brexit, while 13% believe that it has improved. When asked about the overall impact of Brexit on the UK, 34% of respondents stated that it has had a negative impact, while 31% believe that it has had a positive impact.
These findings suggest that a significant majority of British people are reevaluating their decision to leave the EU and are now in favor of rejoining. The poll’s results have significant implications for the UK’s future relationship with the EU and highlight the need for policymakers to carefully consider the views of the British people.
