briatore, who previously led Benetton and Renault to Formula One titles, returned to the sport last year as an executive adviser. He has been managing the team since Oliver Oakes’ resignation as principal. Alpine currently sits at the bottom of the Constructor’s standings.
When questioned about the impact of De Meo’s departure at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, Briatore stated it would change “Nothing, absolutely nothing.” He added, “Nothing changed for me. Not for me or the team. And congratulations to Luca, new job.”
Alpine’s future strategy involves a shift to Mercedes power units for the upcoming season. Renault decided last September to cease engine production at its Viry-Chatillon factory,a move driven by cost considerations. De Meo noted in October that internal engine production cost Renault about $289 million annually, while sourcing from another manufacturer would cost less than $20 million.
