A New Financial Architecture Takes Shape
The design of a potential BRICS currency is gaining attention as the economic bloc aims for a 2026 launch. The currency’s visual identity, revealed recently, prominently features the flags of the five member nations - Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa – representing a unified front amidst shifting global economic dynamics.
Souvenir versions of the currency have been produced in denominations of 50, 100, and 200 units. This tangible portrayal of the project was highlighted at recent international summits. President Vladimir Putin of Russia received a 50-unit sheet during the BRICS 2024 Summit in Kazan, signifying a collective commitment to the initiative.Further demonstrating progress, a 200-unit sheet was presented at the International Economic Forum in St.Petersburg.
Celebrating National Identity Through design
Beyond the shared symbolism of the BRICS flags, the currency’s design incorporates elements unique to each member nation. Landmark icons and representative animals will adorn the notes, celebrating the individual cultural and natural heritage of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. This concept, originating from the BRICS business community, aims to visually embody a vision of collaboration and a new international economic order.
“The concept of souvenirs is present as a symbol of a joint movement towards a more balanced international economic order,” explained a representative from the design team, as reported by Watcher Guru on August 22nd.
