Chinese Animation: A Powerful Tool for Promoting Cultural Exchange
Recently, the 19th China Changchun Film Festival hosted a themed exchange event, “Chinese Animation, Chinese Stories, Chinese Communication,” in Changchun. The event, hosted by Wanda Film, brought together experts to discuss the promotion of high-quality development in Chinese animated films.
Yu Zhou, co-founder and president of Light Chaser Animation, emphasized the importance of original stories based on traditional Chinese culture in spreading Chinese culture. He noted that many excellent animated films in recent years have been based on mythology and traditional cultural themes, such as the ”Investiture of the Gods” series and the “White Snake Trilogy.” Zhang Yu, general manager of China Film Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., added that combining ancient mythology themes with advanced production technology and modern values has created an efficient channel for audiences to communicate ancient and modern cultures from an aesthetic perspective.
Dong Lingyi, general manager of Xiaozhuo Film, highlighted the role of marketing methods and channels, as well as the screening experience, in telling Chinese stories well and helping to spread Chinese culture. In recent years, the Chinese film market has developed steadily, with domestic animated films showing strong momentum. Representative works, such as “Nezha: The Devil Child Comes into the World,” have broken box office records, achieving a box office of 5.035 billion yuan in 2019. The audience of animated films has also achieved globalization, covering all age groups and allowing Chinese and global movie fans to experience the unique charm of Chinese culture.
