British tourist Dies After Bangkok Bar Altercation
BANGKOK, Thailand – A British man in his 20s died in bangkok following an altercation after being ejected from a karaoke bar, according to the Foreign, Commonwealth & development Office (FCDO). The incident occurred late last month.
the FCDO confirmed they are providing assistance to the man’s family. “We are providing support to the family of a British man who died in Bangkok and are in contact with local authorities,” a spokesperson said.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, Nick Weir, 28, of Salisbury, was asked to leave the 91karaoke bar around 2 a.m. on march 24 after exhibiting erratic behavior.
Authorities stated that Weir, a graduate of Leeds University and former student at The International School of Brussels, who managed a company in Salisbury, was allegedly pursued by two men on a motorcycle after leaving the bar. CCTV footage reportedly shows Weir running before engaging in a conversation with the men and attempting to get on their motorcycle.
A physical altercation ensued, and Weir was thrown to the ground. Police said the men called emergency services after Weir lost consciousness, but paramedics were unable to revive him.
Investigation Underway
Weir was pronounced dead at the scene, approximately 200 meters from the karaoke bar. Police are questioning two Thai men, Phurinat, 32, and Boonchou, 29, in connection with the alleged attack, which occurred in the Bang Sue district of Bangkok.
