Brrr Alert: Hong Kong Braces for Autumn’s First Chilling Blast – Temperatures to Plummet to 21°C by Tuesday
Autumn’s First Strong Cold Air to Hit China
The Central Meteorological Observatory has predicted that the first strong cold air since autumn will move east and south tomorrow, bringing temperatures down by 4 to 8 degrees across most of the Mideast and Northwest regions. In some places, temperatures will drop by 8 to 10 degrees, while in parts of the northern region, temperatures will plummet by more than 12 degrees.
The Observatory noted that a strong wind will move eastward and southward from tomorrow to next Sunday, affecting most of the Middle East, Northwest China, Inner Mongolia, North China, Central and South Northeast China, and Huanghua. Temperatures will fall significantly, with northerly winds of 4 to 5, gusts of 6 to 8, and maximum gusts of 8 to 9 over rivers and lakes.
The Central Meteorological Center has issued a blue warning for strong winds at 6 pm today. Cold air will bring significant rainfall over central and eastern parts of northwest China, light to moderate rainfall over most of Inner Mongolia and northern China, and moderate rain over parts of northeastern Qinghai, central Gansu, central Inner Mongolia, and northern Hebei.
The Observatory said that the northeast monsoon currently affecting the coast of South China will gradually weaken over the next day or two. A broad trough of low pressure will bring rain over the northern South China Sea and southern China coast from late into the weekend into early next week. Another northerly monsoon is expected to arrive in southern China next Sunday, and the weather will be slightly cooler in the region from early to mid next week.
Tropical Cyclone Prasang will move towards the Ryukyu Islands and the east coast of China in the next day or two. Hong Kong will be partly cloudy this evening, with a shower or two. Tomorrow morning’s low will be around 27 degrees, and it will be sunny and warm for part of the day with a high of around 32 degrees in urban areas and a degree or two higher in the new areas.
A couple of showers are likely the next day. Northerly winds will strengthen early next week, with slightly cooler weather and occasional rain, with minimum temperatures expected to drop in many districts, including Tseung Kwan O, Sha Tin, and Tai Po. The minimum temperature at Ta Kwu Ling is expected to drop further to 21 degrees next Tuesday.
