Updated june 8, 2025
The Philadelphia Phillies will be without star first baseman Bryce Harper for at least 10 days. The team announced Saturday that Harper has been placed on the injured list due to inflammation in his right wrist. To fill his spot on the roster, the Phillies selected the contract of infielder/outfielder otto Kemp.
Harper’s wrist had been bothering him, keeping him out of Friday’s lineup. While he has been productive this season, his power numbers are down. In 57 games, Harper is batting .258 with nine home runs and a .814 OPS.
The Phillies hope the time off will allow Harper’s wrist to heal, enabling him to regain his power. The loss of Harper’s on-base ability is a blow to the Phillies’ offense.
In Harper’s absence, Alec Bohm is expected to play first base, with Edmundo sosa at third. Otto Kemp, 25, is also an option. Kemp has been performing well for Lehigh Valley, batting .317 with 14 home runs in 57 games.
Philadelphia has lost seven of its last eight games but still holds a 37-26 record. They are currently 2 1/2 games behind the New York Mets in the National League East and hold a wild-card spot.
What’s next
The Phillies will rely on Alec Bohm, Edmundo Sosa, and the newly added Otto Kemp to maintain their offensive production while Bryce Harper recovers from his wrist injury. The team hopes to stop their recent slide and solidify their position in the National League playoff race.
